Dragon-riding is reminiscent of rail shooters like Panzer Dragoon, and provides the same sense of awe. Unlike Earth snails, Rift Apart's giant, land-based mollusks dash you across the map at breakneck speed. Riding creatures, such as giant snails and dragons, is equally entertaining. These sequences also account for some of the game's most cinematic moments. It’s a blast jumping from rail to rail to avoid whatever obstacles lie along your path. Rail-grinding is a series staple, so it’s good to see it largely unchanged. In addition to platforming, you also navigate levels by grinding rails or mounting animals. Overall, Rift Apart's platforming is a joy thanks to the game's tight controls and fluid animations. The new dimension-hopping mechanic meshes well with the traditional controls. This not only helps you cross insurmountable chasms, but also gives you an advantage during combat. Doing so zips you across the map in the blink of an eye. The tether also lets you latch on to dimensional tears. You navigate dangerous terrain by jumping, hovering, or using a tether as a grappling hook. Platforming is largely unchanged from previous installments. This way, you’re able to concentrate on mastering the enjoyable base mechanics. Although it would’ve been cool to play as characters with two distinct playstyles, it was smart to go with a universal control scheme. The two share the same weapons, along with whatever upgrades you’ve unlocked for said weapons. Rift Apart introduces Rivet, a female Lombax hailing from a dimension ruled by an “Emperor Nefarious.” As the other playable character, Rivet controls exactly like Ratchet. Users can mix-and-match grooves and fills within the plugin to build their ideal beat, before dragging the MIDI composition onto their DAW’s timeline. There are MIDI presets replicating a range of playing styles, each with its own sub-library of fills. The real highlight here is the extensive and flexible library of MIDI grooves. There’s a per-channel mixer with compressor included, to help adjust levels further. In terms of sounds, you’re limited to just a sampled acoustic kit here, although the sounds themselves have been well recorded and pre-processed in order to cut through a mix. Unlike some of the more electronic or synthetic tools in this list, Power Drumkit 2 is a plugin aimed squarely at replicating the realistic sound of a real musician behind a genuine drum kit. Both plugins can track incoming MIDI notes, too, meaning they can be put to use for percussive basslines and melodies as well as traditional drums. RD-909, meanwhile, has individual controls to shape the tone, pitch sweep and noise of the drum, plus an added distortion effect. The BD-808 adds course and fine tuning, plus an extended Long Decay mode. In reality, the hardware that inspires these plugins is fairly limited - you can’t even tune a real 808 kick - but Synsonic has ramped up the flexibility significantly with a variety of parameters absent from the originals. While a one-track drum plugin might not sound all that useful on paper, it’s worth bearing in mind that between them those two bass drums underpin entire genres, from house and techno to hip-hop, so having access to speciality tools dedicated to shaping the perfect emulation is nothing to scoff at. Specifically, the synthesised kicks found on Roland’s iconic TR-909 and TR-808 drum machines. This pair of free percussion synths from German developer Synsonic focus entirely on just one drum sound: the kick.
I'm a much bigger fan of the design of the Shield Tablet itself. As you can image, that got irritating rather quickly. I also found the touch-sensitive Android buttons to be a bit too sensitive, and I often found myself accidentally activating the back button while playing a game. The plastic feels cheap, the D pad and shoulder buttons are mushy under the fingers and thumbs, and the controller is on the large side, so those with smaller hands might find it a little uncomfortable to hold. There's nothing about it that screams premium gaming controller in the same way that a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One controller does, and considering it's the same price as those controllers, that's disappointing. The problem with the Shield Controller is that it looks cheap, like one of those flimsy third-party Datel controllers you used to get laden with at birthdays from a well-meaning Aunt. Nvidia claims the WiFi connection results in 2X less latency than Bluetooth, and while I can't definitively say that's the case, I certainly didn't notice any lag while playing games. On the whole, the controller works well, with its proprietary WiFi connection remaining stable throughout. There's a headphone jack up top for streaming game audio, or adding a headset for voice chat, and up to four controllers can be paired with the Shield Tablet. The Shield Controller features the usual array of analogue sticks and buttons that you'd find on an Xbox or PlayStation controller, as well as some Android-specific buttons, including home, back, and volume, as well as a small touch pad at the bottom of the pad for controlling a mouse cursor. Sadly, Nvidia isn't offering any bundles, which is a missed opportunity to get people into the tablet-gaming fold. Unfortunately, it's an $59/£49 on top of the tablet asking price, and when you add in the cost of the kickstand case at $39-which is basically a necessity if you plan on gaming with the controller on the go-you're looking at almost an extra $100 on top of the tablet price to get the full Shield Tablet experience. While you can use any Bluetooth controller you like with the Shield Tablet, a lot of its features are built with the Shield Controller in mind. I wouldn't say the same about the Shield Controller, though. I'd happily pay the extra few bucks for the Shield Tablet it's simply a better, more well-specced device. The display also makes a lot more sense when you see the price: at just $299/£229 for a 16GB Wifi version, or $399/£299 for a 32GB version with 4G, the Shield Tablet is definitely at the cheaper end of performance tablets, and it compares favourably with the likes of the Nexus 7, particularly because it's running a mostly stock version of Android. The lower DPI count is also better for running games, the more taxing of which stress the GPU at 1920x1200, never mind anything higher. You might run into some visibility issues if you're using the tablet outdoors in blazing sunlight, but otherwise the display is plenty bright. Some might be disappointed not to see a higher DPI display here-such as the one featured on the iPad Mini-but the Shield Tablet's IPS display is lovely and clear, and has great viewing angles. There's 16GB of internal storage, the much-appreciated inclusion of a Micro SD slot for up to 128GB of storage expansion, a 5MP front-facing camera as well as a 5MP autofocus rear camera, a non-active stylus based on Nvidia's DirectStylus 2 technology, front-facing stereo speakers, a 19.75 Watt hour battery, mini HDMI out, and an 8-inch, 1920x1200 pixel display. The K1 is backed up by 2GB of RAM, which makes for zippy performance across the board the Shield Tablet churns through pretty much any task you throw at it, which makes navigating through the largely stock version of Android 4.4.3 it ships with a pleasure. Nvidia has already talked about the flagship 64-bit version of Tegra K1, which features the company's Project Denver CPU, a powerful chip first based on 64-bit ARMv8-A architecture. While the A15 is a powerful chip, it's slightly disappointing not to see something more modern here. That's actually the same quad core processor as used in the original Shield Portable, albeit at a higher clock speed. On the CPU side, a quad core Arm Cortex A15 processor clocked at 2.2GHz powers the Shield Tablet. In theory, this means PC developers should find it easier to port their games over to Android, with Epic having already unveiled a version of Unreal Engine 4 running on the chip. Shield Tablet is based on Nvidia's 32-bit Tegra K1 chip, which features a Kepler-based GPU with 192 CUDA cores that supports OpenGL 4.4 and the DX12 API. On paper at least, the tech is impressive. By clicking 'enter', you agree to GameSpot's "A small team was assembled at NaturalMotion to start work on integrating with RAGE and iterating directly with gameplay and animation teams in San Diego. "It was a few years in when the company entered into discussions with Rockstar about the potential to use this new approach to character animation in one of their upcoming titles, Red Dead: Redemption," Denholm explains. The incubatory team would then work closely with game studios to plug it into their games. When he started at the company in 2004, he was part of a six-person incubatory team that created the technology, taking inspiration from a piece of NaturalMotion's existing tech dubbed Endorphin and reinventing it so it could be used in real-time. Harry Denholm worked on GTA4 as engineering lead at NaturalMotion, the company behind Euphoria. Euphoria at its best - in every sense - sees the player drunkenly stumbling around town. It was a revelation, but outside of a few rare examples - Backbreaker and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - it's rarely been seen outside of Rockstar's own games since. Powered by Euphoria and working in synergy with Rockstar's in-house RAGE engine, characters would react to situations dynamically - grabbing at bullet wounds, tripping down staircases, stumbling while intoxicated, bouncing off objects, and reacting to their surroundings once prodded. When the open-world crime 'em up released in 2008, it felt like the next step. When you see the slapstick tumble of a GTA4 NPC falling violently down a flight of stairs, though, you know this is what the developers wanted. Playing the original Assassin's Creed, I used to use the 'gentle push' interaction to send its street-wandering drones to a watery death, but you could tell this wasn't its intended purpose. Rockstar knew exactly what it was doing when it added a button to allow players to shove NPCs. Grand Theft Auto 4's greatest crimes happen when you channel your inner Agent 47 and push people to their deaths: over the edge of a bridge, onto the railway tracks, down some stairs - whatever works for you, you miserable sadist. Going on a rocket rampage in Liberty City is so cliché. Grand Theft Auto 4, though, was different. You might be able to bring down massive structures by taking out support beams on Red Faction: Guerilla's open-world Mars, and Microsoft may be promising to let us topple entire skyscrapers with the power of the cloud for Crackdown 3's multiplayer, but character models are left to flop to the floor, float above the ground, wibble through scenery, or keel over in a canned animation. Yet while this visual arms race continues, character physics are being left to stagnate. Look at all those pixels, all that detail, and marvel at how far we've come. Blazkowicz sat next to his coarsely drawn early incarnation. If not, perhaps you've seen Wolfenstein: The New Order's B.J. You've probably seen an image of PlayStation-era Lara Croft in all her stark polygonal beauty contrasted side-by-side with her modern character model. GTA-IV and EFLC are known to have issues with AMD manufactured processors and some graphics cards due to the nature of the software, which in all fairness, was written more than a decade ago and for a very specific set of hardware options.Charting the phenomenal progress of video games these past few decades is easy enough. in the background and they will not impact processor load and performance). IF the problem persists, run the benchmarking tool (within the game) and if after that there is still a problem it could very well be that you have programs running on your machine in the background which are resource hungry (some people think that a modern processor can run defrag for example, SKYPE, etc. Talking of drivers, the first thing you should do is update your video card driver so the latest is installed and then check the game out. OK, Grand Theft Auto IV has a benchmarking tool incorporated into the game which you can run and this will make the game find the best results based on your hardware and driver options. I love the 'experts' - forums are full of them and none of them really have anything useful to say. It has been featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles including Newsweek and a four page feature story in Import Tuner Magazine. It has been shipped to Panama (Central America) for the premere of 2 Fast 2 Furious, driven by Dalene Curtis (2002 Playboy Plamate of the year), filmed for several commercials and television shows including: NOPI Tuner vision, Hi-Rev Tuners, SpeedLogic, and a commercial for Redline which was on MTV. This car has taken First Place at the NOPI Nationals car show in Atlanta, Best Mitsubishi at Hot Import Nights, and Best Asian Car Overall at NOPI Race Wars. They told me that they would ship all four cars to my painter (ProComp Paint in Cape Coral, FL) to have them painted like mine, they would pay me for the graphic design, and my personal car (the original model) would still be used in the filming during the warehouse scene towards the end of the movie I agreed. At first I said no I wanted my car to be the only one in the film. The Eclipse in the film featured a lime green Blitz body kit and flashy vinyl graphics. Paul Walker’s character turned the second generation eclipse into an iconic movie car. Because they knew that some damage would more than likely be done to the car and the fact that the car is the Sportronic model, they asked if they could make four copies of the car, and use them in the film. In 2001 the movie Fast and the Furious was released and the Eclipse had the starring role. not only would I rather take the bus than be seen in Tyrese Gibson’s purple and silver Eclipse Spyder from. John Singleton approached me at Homestead and asked if I would let Tyrese drive the car in the movie I said of course I would.Ībout a week later I received a phone call from Fast & Furious Productions they asked several questions about the car. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder From 2 Fast 2 Furious Has A Fascinating Origin Story. The car was chosen by John Singleton at the final car-casting call at Homestead Speedway in Homestead, Florida. The 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse was Brian OConners signature car in the original The Fast and the Furious. The undercover cop used the car to train for a street race in which he was supposed to earn the respect of Vin Diesels Dom Toretto. I have all the documentation, photos, paychecks, movie call-sheets, and media articles. Brian O’Connor’s famous Green Car race showcased the Eclipse’s magnificent power, as it rattled through the race. This is the original 2 Fast 2 Furious Supercharged Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, hand-picked by John Singleton for Tyrese to drive in the movie. The Eclipse was always an incredible performance vehicle, as it had won numerous rally titles, however it was the Fast and Furious series of films that really elevated the car to new levels of popularity. It’s an extremely popular drag race vehicle, as it has an incredibly fast acceleration of 0 - 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds! It really can compete with the big dogs of the supercar world, and is why it has remained such a popular car choice for speed car enthusiasts. With it’s 2 litre, turbocharged 16V engine and 324 lbs of torque, the Eclipse has a phenomenal amount of power for its size. However, its fame and notoriety really began in 1995, after its second brand redesign. RELATED: Paul Walker’s Fast and Furious Supra Sells for Six Figures. Following Walker’s untimely passing in 2013, one car builder decided to take on the popular project of turning an Eclipse into a Fast and Furious tribute car, and this is the result of his emotional build. The Mitsubishi Eclipse first debuted to the world in 1990. The other is Walker’s Mitsubishi Eclipse from the same film.
